The pre-talk begins by sympathizing with the client's frustration. The script acknowledges how the endless tide of technological progress can feel overwhelming, such as when apps that were once optional become necessary.

The client is assured that no matter why they feel frustrated with technology - whether it's anger over new systems or work or the feelings of alienation that new technology brings - hypnosis can help.

Three ways the session will help are laid out plainly. First, the client is assured this session will help them make space for the frustrated feelings that emerge from their interactions with new technology. While some advances have undoubtedly made simple things more complicated, technology has also enabled us to do many things more quickly and easily than had ever been possible before.

The session is also designed to help the client jettison their unhelpful judgements around new technology. Whether the client feels they are too inept to grasp new advances or feels unhappy about the increasing intrusion of digital technology into every avenue of life, these feelings can prevent a clear-eyed view of new technology. The example of the telephone, which was once viewed as an unnecessary intrusion into the private sphere of home life, is used to show how the encroachment of technology often feels different at first.

The client is finally assured that hypnosis will help them become calmer and more open to technology, allowing them to be curious about advancements and patient with themselves in adjusting to new things.

A short induction brings the client into a hypnotic state through a focus on breathing, flowing language, and embedded commands. As the body is relaxed, a dissociation takes the client into a dream-like state outside of themselves, then transports them to a calm and idyllic beach scene where they can "get a new perspective on things."

The client is guided to recall a time when they were fascinated by something new, whether it was a language, an academic subject, or hobby, and how it produces a sense of curiosity inside of them. As they regain a sense of that fascination, the client is instructed to "be focused on learning" by an embedded command.

Skills like riding a bike, driving a car, and becoming proficient at a new job once seemed foreign and complicated, the client is reminded. It took hours and hours of practice before they could perform these tasks well. The client is urged to give themselves the necessary time to master new technology.

Now, the client is urged to push away any unhelpful thoughts that either sow doubt about their ability to accomplish new tasks or provoke frustration by asking why they should have to learn new concepts. As the thoughts slide away, they soften and quiet down. The client is urged to see that beneath those feelings was a vulnerability that pushed out its worries as frustration.

The client is guided to acknowledge and hear the vulnerable part of themselves, the part that wants to be able to expertly handle new technology right away. An embedded command instructs the client to become comfortable with being a beginner who needs time to adjust and learn new things.

Learning new technology is compared to exercise, which is hard work that strengthens the body. The client is urged to give themselves permission to "really enjoy learning."

The session closes with the client being reminded that a broadened view of things can help with frustration; new technology often has glitches that get ironed out over time. An embedded command instructs the client to remain "open and curious" about ironing out their inner complications in a way that allows them to calmly focus and learn one step at a time.
