Regain Control of Overactive Bladder With Hypnosis
Are you always feeling the urge to urinate even when you know your bladder isn't full?
Do you find that you have to constantly make careful plans so you're never far from a bathroom?
We're not suggesting that hypnosis is right for everyone with overactive bladder, unless you have had a medical checkup for other problems that could be causing too-frequent urination.
If your doctor diagnoses that your problems are due to the bladder muscle contracting too much, they may prescribe medication and/or advise you on a number of practical tactics you can use to reduce the symptoms. These can make a significant difference.
However, it is well established that psychological factors play an important role in the development of the kinds of symptoms you may be experiencing. This is good news (you may be surprised to learn), because it means that psychological interventions can be particularly effective 1 .
Hypnosis can help you get more bladder control
Overactive Bladder Treatment is an audio hypnosis session developed by psychologists that will help you take a personal hand in making things better for yourself.
Hypnotherapy can be used to normalize bodily sensations, and decreases focus on specific symptoms. In addition, it is particularly helpful in reducing anxiety around particular issues to allow them to assume their normal place in the hierarchy of concerns.
As you relax and listen repeatedly to this advanced hypnosis download, you'll notice a number of significant changes taking place. In particular, you'll become aware that
- you feel a great deal more relaxed generally
- the number of times you need to visit the bathroom steadily reduces to a normal level
- you feel able to trust your body again
- you can devote your energies to the things you want to focus on without worrying
- you begin to enjoy life much more

When you have an overactive bladder, you may experience a sudden, urgent need to urinate even when there's very little liquid in your bladder or when you've only recently been to the bathroom. This condition can make long journeys challenging, lead to social embarrassment, and disrupt sleep, leaving you feeling like you never get a good night's rest because of frequent trips to the bathroom.
About one in six people experience this condition to some degree. While the exact cause isn't always fully understood, the symptoms occur because the bladder muscle contracts too often. This tends to happen more frequently as people age but is also associated with factors such as stress, excessive caffeine intake, or certain brain and nervous system disorders.
Behavioral Strategies for Managing an Overactive Bladder:
- Sipping Liquids: Drink small amounts of liquid throughout the day rather than consuming large amounts at once.
- Minimizing Caffeine Intake: Reduce or eliminate caffeine, which can irritate the bladder.
- Tracking Bathroom Visits: Keep a diary of your bathroom trips with the goal of gradually training yourself to urinate five or six times a day.
- Pelvic Floor Exercises: Daily pelvic floor exercises can help strengthen the muscles that support bladder control. You can find simple instructions online or consult your doctor.
Psychological Component:
An overactive bladder often involves a psychological aspect as well. You may develop habits like going to the bathroom "just in case" to avoid being caught short, or you may become overly aware of your bladder, constantly checking if you need to go.
Hypnotherapy as a Solution:
This session aims to help reduce both the physical symptoms of an overactive bladder and the habits and thought patterns contributing to the issue. Hypnosis has a long history of being used successfully for physical conditions such as chronic pain, inflammation, and digestive problems. There is also strong evidence supporting its effectiveness for incontinence and frequent urination.
For example, a study published in the British Medical Journal involved 50 women with overactive bladders. After 12 sessions of hypnotherapy:
- 29 women (58%) reported their symptoms had disappeared completely.
- 14 women (28%) experienced significant improvement in their symptoms.
In total, hypnotherapy proved effective for 86% of the participants.
Recommendations:
- Regular Listening: Listen to this session consistently to reinforce positive changes.
- Set Targets: Gradually reduce your bathroom visits. For instance, if you currently go to the bathroom 10 or more times a day, aim to reduce that number by two visits over the next week. Continue this pattern until you average about six visits per day.
- Keep a Diary: Monitor your progress by keeping a daily record of your bathroom trips. This will help you see how much progress you're making.
By following these steps and incorporating the guidance from this session, you can effectively manage an overactive bladder and improve your quality of life.
