When individuals fail to make mature, responsible decisions, their lives suffer. They can lose friends, jobs, opportunities, and money with very little to show for it.

The induction begins by guiding the client to relax through the use of embedded commands. They are encouraged to view their current relaxation as a doorway into deeper rest, and urged to immerse their attention deep within themselves. They are led to feel calming sensations spread throughout their body and mind.

A progressive relaxation is employed to move the client into a deeper state of calm. Beginning with the facial muscles and moving on to the shoulders, arms, and hands, the client is slowly led to notice a heavy, relaxing feeling throughout their body.

The client is guided to imagine a sapling slowly growing into a tree by growing its roots underground and soaking up nutrients from rich soil. As the tree develops and its branches reach through the sky, the client is led to notice how it is "being true to its nature" while remaining stoic and unchanging as the seasons pass. An embedded command anchors this concept within the client's unconscious mind.

As the trancework begins, the client learns about research into the developing minds of children. Scientists have found that young children have great difficulty in seeing things from someone else's perspective. However, at some point something develops within the child and they become aware that other people may see objects and situations differently than they do. An embedded command tells the client to get a sense of how they look from an outside perspective.

The explanation continues as the client learns how children develop, when emotional outbursts over who gets to go first in a game begin to lose their appeal. Embedded commands are used to anchor the ideas of "growing up" and "growing out of such things" in the client's mind. They are again led to picture themselves from the outside and notice their childish urges. An embedded command directs the client to "move beyond" such impulses.
