How to Overcome Procrastination with Hypnosis

Motivate your unconscious mind to make you get moving on your goals

Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination is one of those mysteries of life.

You know you should do that thing, you know it's the right thing to do, that's it's good for you to do it - yet still you keep putting it off!

WHY??!!!!

We'll get to that later, but first...

Why some procrastination may be a good thing

Of course, if you did actually try to do everything you needed to do at once, as soon as you knew you needed to do it, you would soon be overwhelmed. Your tasks are not all equally important, or equally urgent. It makes sense to schedule what you have to do, give yourself time to do things properly, and pace yourself comfortably.

But it's not that easy, is it? There seem to be certain tasks, or certain undertakings, that you always put at the back of the queue. You will do them, of course. You mean to do them. You know how important they are. But you're just not going to do them right now, and putting them to the back of the queue means you can put them out of your mind for now.

Out of mind is... out of mind

Trouble is, once out of your mind, they really are out of your mind. You don't pay them any mind. Until one day they jump up and bite you. "Hey! Here I am! You haven't done me yet!"

And you have to rush around and do whatever it is as fast as possible (which generally means not as well as possible).

Sometimes they jump up too late. You don't notice till the penalty demand comes in. Doubly painful.

When habitual postponement is sabotaging your life, it's time to stop

Now everyone has put off a task or two at some time or another, and forgotten all about it, and paid the price. It's no big deal to do this once in a while, and take it on the chin. It's human!

But if you regularly put off things that you really should be getting on with, and if as a result things are not going as well as they could or should for you, maybe it's time to face up to that dilly-dallying and tell it where to go.

How hypnosis can help you stop procrastinating

If you really want to understand what procrastination is, you need to understand the difference between the conscious and unconscious minds.

Because when you know you should do something, when you know it's the right thing to do, that's all conscious. All thoughts. All froth.

Compared to the unconscious mind, the conscious is a 5-stone weakling.

When it comes to motivation and drive, it all comes from the unconscious mind. Which means, if you want to get properly motivated to do something, you need to engage the unconscious mind.

And that's why hypnosis is so good for tackling procrastination.

The Overcome Procrastination hypnosis session is designed to turn that conscious knowledge into powerful unconscious drive.

As you relax and listen repeatedly to your session, you'll notice that you:

  • connect with a deep inner sense of purpose and determination
  • feel much more in command of yourself and your choices
  • no longer battle with yourself daily about getting things done
  • understand and take care of your own needs so much better
  • know how to recognize and deal with temptations to delay
  • get much more done - at the right time.

And as you start to understand - at a deep level - the difference between conscious thought and unconscious power, you'll develop the ability to manage your own mind much better. And so in the future, you'll be able to create your own unconscious motivation easily.

It's not always a bad thing to decide to put off doing a piece of work. Sometimes, we need to wait before beginning a project. Maybe we have to wait until other tasks have been cleared out of the way first. If the project or task requires creative thinking, the unconscious mind may need time to develop ideas, and forcing it will only slow matters down.

However, when the only thing preventing us from getting started is ourselves, and our lives become less efficient, organized, or successful than they could be, procrastination works against our best interests. Most people have procrastinated at some point - they’ve put off doing what they know they should really get on with. Some people can spend hours, days, or even weeks avoiding a task that might only take a few hours to complete if they just got on with it.

The pattern of procrastination goes something like this:

  1. Firstly, you know there's something you need to do, whether that's writing a report for next week, filling out a form, preparing a speech, or whatever it may be.
  2. Secondly, you have the good intention of starting because you know you really should. But then, you get a subtle inner feeling of resistance.

This resistance could manifest as a feeling of anxiety about the task because it feels overwhelming, and you don’t know where to begin. Perhaps you want to do a good job and are scared of not being able to meet your own expectations. Alternatively, it might be a feeling of sulkiness or rebelliousness because the task feels boring or difficult, and you don’t see why you should have to do it right now.

So, the task gets put off as a vague, non-specific future event-something you'll get around to "eventually." Meanwhile, displacement activities kick in. Somehow, daytime TV becomes a priority, or a phone call to a friend, or another cup of coffee and a snack.

  3. Often at this point in the cycle, you justify your actions by convincing yourself there are valid reasons for these other activities. But as time passes, the pressure builds. The deadline approaches, or feelings of disappointment, disgust, or impatience with yourself start to emerge. Perhaps your boss, or another external influence, begins to put pressure on you.

With many tasks, there comes a point when it becomes more painful not to begin than to keep putting it off. Maybe it has to be handed in tomorrow, or if you don’t complete it tonight, there will be significant consequences. At this point, the task just has to get done.

  4. Finally, there’s the actual doing of the job. It often turns out to be far easier and quicker than all the initial procrastination might have suggested. When the job is finally completed, the last step in the procrastination cycle sets in: relief.

You might also feel a twinge of regret for not doing it sooner and avoiding all the unnecessary stress.

This session is designed to help you break free from the old procrastination habit for good. By guiding your unconscious mind to release the inner sense of resistance that lies at the core of all procrastination, you can replace struggle with calm efficiency. Over time, you’ll notice yourself calmly and effectively tackling tasks, making life easier, more productive, and more fulfilling.
