Explore the strengths that come with introversion and learn how to use them effectively with gentle, permissive hypnosis
Does it sometimes feel like the entire world is centred around extroverts?
Have you sometimes been made to feel like your introversion is some kind of deficiency?
This couldn't be further from the truth. People with a tendency towards introversion have skills and strengths that are of great value to the people around them and to society as a whole. Their strengths might not be as loud and obvious as those of extroverts, but they are every bit as important.
Why we need introverts
Extroverts are often appreciated as the life of the party, while as an introvert you may find social events exhausting. But in quieter social situations, we introverts have a lot to offer. Because we tend to be more introspective and take time to consider things deeply, we can be much more attuned to subtle social cues and listen carefully to what others have to say. Introverts often make the best friends and colleagues.
Empathizing with others may also come more naturally to introverts, because we are used to considering many points of view rather than making snap decisions or saying the first thing that comes into our heads. Contrary to popular belief, introverts can actually make the best leaders for this very reason - we have more of a tendency to reflect on our decisions and on the needs and opinions of others.
Sometimes it seems like extroverts have an easier path to the top, and it's true that they can be more easily recognized. But introverts can sometimes be more willing to put in the hard yards in the long term. While extroverts commonly need lots of stimulation and external reward to feel satisfied, introverts are often more capable of finding intrinsic meaning and satisfaction from their actions. They are more likely to value learning for learning's sake, and to feel proud of their achievements without necessarily needing recognition for them.
But it's important to recognize here that...
There's actually no such thing as an introvert
Society loves to label people, but the reality is that none of us conforms exactly to the narrow definition of "introvert" or "extrovert." We are all a complex patchwork of different traits that tend towards introversion or extraversion. The danger of accepting the label of "introvert" is that we can come to believe that every introverted trait should apply to us completely and to the exclusion of all extroverted traits, so that it becomes a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy.
So while it's useful to recognize certain traits within ourselves so that we can appreciate and utilize them, we shouldn't let them become boundaries. We change and grow throughout our lives, and we are all capable of much more than our labels might suggest.
