In this month's free Audio Insight we look at a fascinating piece of research which found an apparent paradox in modern schooling: that students are simultaneously more positive about the future yet more depressed than ever.
This does seem weird. Why should students who are more positive about the future be more depressed? The researchers suggest that it may not be a paradox at all. In fact, the two states may be causally linked.
Two studies have demonstrated that students are more likely to be depressed when educational aspirations exceed actual expectations. In the first, students who aspired to higher grades than they actually expected to achieve were more likely to be depressed at both the beginning and the end of the academic year.
Our new Audio Insight is called How to avoid your aspirations and expectations depressing you and digs into the implications of this research.
So onto this month's new scripts:
If your clients have discovered that they have a tendency to jump from one addictive behavior to another, give Change Addictive Personality a try. It will help your clients redirect their strong drive in a more productive way.
And we've all found ourselves in the situation where we know we've shared too much, too soon, but if this is a repeating problem for your clients, then our new script Stop Oversharing may just give them the calm perspective they need to make better social judgements.
Overcome Math Anxiety for Kids will help kids get past any nerves they have around numbers which will be making their skill with numbers worse.
And finally, we've upgraded Cool Down Hot Flashes for women going through the menopause.
In summary:
- Change Addictive Personality - help your clients escape the cycle of addictive patterns.
- Stop Oversharing - help your clients make better social judgements.
- Overcome Math Anxiety for Kids - help kids stop nerves making math harder.
- Cool Down Hot Flashes - help your clients relax and reduce those uncomfortable flashes.
"The darkest hour is before the dawn" they say, and it feels like that might be pertinent to our current situation. I hope you and your loved ones are well and safe.
My very best,
Mark
