Hypnosis for horrible pain

Hello Mark

I have been suffering awful pain in my left shoulder due to nerve damage from a car crash three years ago. Pain killing medication doesn't seem to work and I don't want to get addicted to meds anyway. I really feel worn down by this pain. Can hypnosis help me even when the pain isn't 'just in the mind?'

Hoping for a reply soon.

Hello Kenneth,

Pain is certainly not 'just in the mind' and neither is it ever just in the body. Hypnosis has an impressive pedigree when it comes to helping people manage and minimize pain. It's been used as a general anaesthetic in major surgery as well for localized use in dentistry and we also use it for severe and chronic pain. Hypnosis works so well for pain because pain is registered in the brain. Mind and body working as one, emotions, expectations and levels of circulating stress hormone all affect the subjective level of pain. On top of that hypnosis can be used to directly lower the amount of pain registred in the mind as brain scans of hypnotized subjects have demonstrated. I suggest you try the 'Manage Neuropathic pain' download along with the 'Chronic Pain management' session.

All my best wishes,
Mark
