Be More Patient
As the old adage has it, a watched pot never boils and it's true that time really
seems to slow down when we want things to happen more quickly.
Do you:
- Get upset when you have to wait?
- Often eat quickly?
- Often feel pressured by the end of the regular work day?
- Feel there is never enough time?
- Find it hard to 'slow down' when you take a break?
If you found yourself saying yes to the above then you may be suffering from
'hurry sickness'.
It's a speeded up world
We live in a world where everything has become instant-instant messaging, email,
text, cell phones which can reach most people most places-it seems that we should
never have to wait.
Patience is a tool
The drive behind impatience may be good and necessary sometimes. It's great to be
proactive, to get things done and to move things along but only when it is A -
possible to speed things along and B -desirable to.
Impatience can be bad for your health
Having a sense of time urgency, impatience, can also raise your blood pressure
which increases your chances of heart disease and stroke. It's long been known that
people with impatient 'type A' personalities have a much higher risk of heart
disease so calming down and becoming more patient will make you healthier and
possibly live longer. (1)
Smelling the roses
Some things in life aren't meant to be hurried because life is short enough. Reading
a great book, making love sometimes, eating a fine meal, taking a beautiful walk,
fermenting wine or extending your attention to a loved one.
This session will get you feeling less pressured and more relaxed helping you manage
your emotional and physical health better.

(1) "The higher the tendency of time urgency and impatience, the higher the risk of
developing hypertension," lead researcher Dr. LeJingh Yan told CNN. The finding
applies to young adults who are impatient and do not have enough time to finish what
they need to do. Hypertension is a significant risk factor for heart disease, stroke
and many other health problems.
