How to Become More Assertive

How to become more assertive is something many people would love to know. They feel that they are not assertive enough on the jobs or in social situations where they get conned into doing things they really don't want to do. Being more assertive is often perceived as being confident, but that is not the case. If you want to become more assertive, you need to realize that you are important as a person and what you have to say is important. Being assertive is not the same as being aggressive. It is a process that helps you get more out of life.

There are several steps to help you become more assertive:
  1. Stop apologizing for your behavior. Realize that you do believe in what you do and you have done your best no matter what others think.
  2. Accept compliments. When people compliment you accept gracefully and believe that they really do mean it.
  3. Don't put yourself down. Realize that everything does not always work out right and that things can go wrong.
  4. Learn to act with confidence even if you don't feel confident.

Sometimes people find it very difficult to become more assertive on their own and they require help.
