A lot of people are confused about what hypnosis and hypnotherapy really are. Some
think it's being put into a trance where you're made to do things you wouldn't
normally do, like you see on television or hypnosis stage shows. So let's take a
look at what hypnosis and hypnotherapy really are.
During hypnosis and hypnotherapy, you are put into a state of deep relaxation. Some
call it a hypnotic trance, but at all times you are aware of what's going on around
you. You are also in complete control of yourself and cannot be made to do anything
you don't want to do. What actually happens is, in this deeply relaxed state, you are
able to access your unconscious mind. This is where we store our thoughts, dreams,
and memories. Our conscious mind is what we use when we are awake and alert. You can
use hypnotic suggestions to change whatever negative thoughts you have stored in your
unconscious mind.
Some people think they can't be hypnotized, or you can only be hypnotized if you have
a weak mind. This is not true. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are simply deep states of
relaxation. Having a weak mind has nothing to do with whether or not you can relax
and how deeply. And almost everyone can be hypnotized. If you daydream or lose
yourself in any kind of activity, you can be hypnotized, as those are very light
relaxation states.
